These photographs are a collection of my boats that I have played with over a long time. Not all of them by any means.
Me Taken at a sailing buddy's place winter 2000.
Soap Dish built in an Air force hobby shop in 1951 in Houston Texas. That is Clear Lake were the space center is now. I do not have any photos of my childhood boats. My other chore at Ellington AFB was driving this and several other antiques. Boat building was more fun than boring holes in Texas skies.
More fun things in the "Guard " in 1955/6
Sailing Soap Dish with Brother-in Law Joe. Nice sail on the day after Christmas about 1965. It is still in use after many reworks and saved by the miracle of epoxy.
Launching For Sail in September 1963.This is an Atkin design called "Shoreliner" that I built using all the old fashioned methods per Chapelle.
For Sail On Lake Lanier Georgia
For Sail on Lake Lanier Georgia spring of 1964
Son Neil and his first boat. Boat building runs in the family. That is at least as far back as my father.
Deja Vu Rest stop from trailer sailing down I-75 in October 1993. The truck is a 1990 Ford 150 with big engine and auto transmission with overdrive. Cruising at 62 MPH for best ride. Getting 12-15 miles per gallon. Boat weighs 4000 and trailer about 1500. I was able to drive 600 miles in exactly 12 hours on return trip.
Abacos, Hope Town on Elbow Key. It took me thirty years to sail my own boat to this wonderful place. Don't wait-- do it now.
All that way and out of focus! The rubber boat being used for this trip inspired the nesting dinghy below. This light house on Elbow Key must be one of the most photographed in the world. The self-steering rig that just shows is the basis of the design on this web site.
A sea going doll house for Granddaughter Rebecca per her request. Photo made summer of 2000
Last of a line of small boats. This one was intended to be the smallest nesting dinghy I could fit on my sea going boat in 1994. I could not resist adding a sail and it sailed surprisingly well and earned a better sail. I have drawings and more photos if it interests you let me know.
I added the lines on the JPG drawing page in October 2001.
This site has also introduced me to other sailors who share my love for both boats and dogs.
This is Russ on Malta. Getting to be a big boyMeet one of my three Labs. We also have a Yellow and a classic black. This is big Dan in Georgia---- He is a big help with self-steering and squirrel chasing.
